۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
