Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 with a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and arranged cushions 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
