The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
