۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
