The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
