The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
