He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
