The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 For a mighty day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to those who deny [(Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection, and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)]. 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 A written record, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss; 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 upon their faces thou wilt see the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
