He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
