The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed not and they turn away. 1 Whenever any fresh admonition comes to them from their Lord they barely heed it and remain immersed in play, 2 With hearts preoccupied. And they confer in secret. The wrong-doers say: Is this other than a mortal like you? Will ye then succumb to magic when ye see (it)? 3 He said: "My Lord knows whatever is spoken in the heavens and the earth. He hears all and knows everything." 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 There did not believe before them any town which We destroyed, will they then believe? 6 And We did not send before you any but men to whom We sent revelation, so ask the followers of the reminder if you do not 7 nor did We fashion them as bodies that ate not food, neither were they immortal; 8 Then We fulfilled the promise We had made to them: We rescued them and those whom We wished, and We destroyed those who exceeded all bounds. 9 Certainly We have revealed to you a Book in which is your good remembrance; what! do you not then understand? 10
