The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
