The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and the sea that is full 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
