(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
