The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 Within gardens and springs 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
