The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
