The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
