Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning to mortals, 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 From the guilty. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
