The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 The Greeks have been vanquished 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 they know but the outer surface of this world's life, whereas of the ultimate things they are utterly unaware. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
