No, by the moon! 32 And the night when it departs, 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning to mortals, 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
