The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they differ? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
