He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
