The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
