Messengers! Partake of the things that are clean, and act righteously. I know well all that you do. 51 “And indeed this religion of yours is one religion only and I am your Lord, therefore fear Me.” 52 Yet they have split their affairs between themselves into sects, each rejoicing in what it has. 53 But leave them alone, lost in their ignorance, until a [future] time. 54 Do they think that by all the wealth and offspring with which We provide them 55 Are quickly giving them goodness? In fact, they do not know. 56 Those who tremble with fear of their Lord; 57 who believe in the verses of their Lord; 58 and do not ascribe partners to Him; 59 and those who give to others what has been bestowed upon them with their hearts trembling at the thought that they must return to their Lord; 60 Are the ones who hasten to goodness and outpace the others. 61 And We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity, and with Us is a Book* that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. (* The preserved tablet or the record of one’s deeds.) 62 On the contrary, their hearts are in neglect of this and their works are different than those of the believers, the works that they are doing. 63 Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication! 64 [But they will be told] "Cry not in supplication today; for, behold, you shall not be succoured by Us! 65 My signs were recited to you, but upon your heels you withdrew, 66 [and,] impelled by your arrogance, you would talk senselessly far into the night." 67 Should they not think upon the saying? Or, did anything come upon them that had not come upon their ancient forefathers? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. 70 Had truth been subject to their whims the heavens and the earth and all those within them would have been depraved. In fact We had sent them their reminder, but they turned away from good advice. 71 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask them for payment? But the reward of your Lord is best, and He is the best of providers. 72 You are surely calling them to the right path. 73 And lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro. 75 And indeed We grasped them with punishment, so neither did they submit themselves to their Lord, nor do they cry humbly. 76 Until, when We open for them the gate of extreme punishment, behold! they are aghast thereat. 77
