The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This has been happening all along. 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
