The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he beheld, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
