The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the angels who drag forth vehemently. 1 By the meteors rushing, 2 by those that swim serenely 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account). 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 And the second followeth it, 7 Hearts will pound loudly on that day, 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 The disbelievers say, “Will we really return to our former state?” 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. 12 But it shall be only a single scare, 13 And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface. 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 When his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa. 16 That “Go to Firaun – he has rebelled.” 17 And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? 18 Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.'" 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed; 21 Then turned he away in haste, 22 Then he gathered and cried aloud, 23 Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all." 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
