The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
