The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
