The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
