The prayer that man should make for good, he maketh for evil; for man is given to hasty (deeds). 11 We have created night and day as two signs, then We efface the sign of the night, and make the sign of the day resplendent that you may seek the bounty of your Lord, and know the computation of years and numbers. We have expounded most distinctly everything. 12 And every human being's destiny have We tied to his neck; and on the Day of Resurrection We shall bring forth for him a record which he will find wide open; 13 We will tell him, "Read it and judge for yourself." 14 Whosoever is guided, it is only for himself that he is guided and whosoever strayeth, it is only against the same that he strayeth; and a burthen-bearer beareth not the burthen of another. And We have not been tormentors until We had raised an apostle. 15 When We decide to destroy a town, We command the affluent section of its people, but they transgress therein; thus the word [sentence of punishment] is justified, then We destroy the town utterly. 16 How many a generation have We destroyed after Nuh; and sufficeth for the offences of His bondmen thy Lord as the Aware, the Beholder. 17 Whoso desireth that (life) which hasteneth away, We hasten for him therein what We will for whom We please. And afterward We have appointed for him hell; he will endure the heat thereof, condemned, rejected. 18 But as for those who care for the [good of the] life to come, and strive for it as it ought to be striven for, and are [true] believers withal - they are the ones whose striving finds favour [with God]! 19 Each group will receive its share of your Lord's generosity. Your Lord's generosity is not limited. 20 Behold, how We prefer some of them over others! And surely the world to come is greater in ranks, greater in preferment. 21 Take not with Allah another object of worship; or thou (O man!) wilt sit in disgrace and destitution. 22
