And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the true Scream seized them – We therefore made them like rotten hay; so away with the unjust people! 41 Thereafter, after them, We produced other generations; 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?" 47 So they belied them, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
