He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
