Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
