The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
