A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
