The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
