The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
