The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
