The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
