۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
