He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
