And said the leaders of his people, who disbelieved and denied the confronting of the Hereafter – and We had given them comfort in the worldly life – that, “He is nothing but a human like you, he eats from what you eat and drinks from what you drink.” 33 and, indeed, if you pay heed to a mortal like yourselves, you will surely be the losers! 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
