And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 no loyal friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
