And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 But they said: "O sorcerer, call on your Lord for us in accordance with the compact He has made with you. We shall certainly come to guidance." 49 But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 Or am I better than this man, who is contemptible and scarcely makes things clear? 52 But why have not bracelets of gold been put upon him, or why have there not come with him angels as companions? 53 Thus he [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] befooled and misled his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 54 But when they continued to challenge Us, We inflicted Our retribution on them, and drowned them all: 55 And We made them (a people) of the Past and an Example to later ages. 56
