The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
