Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
