And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
