(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
