(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 "He aided you with cattle and sons." 133 And orchards and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
