The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a few from later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
