The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all those on earth. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
